Multiple times per week, G4G volunteer coaches lead the youth through a variety of exercise and physical training in all three of the G4G key sports. The youth not only develop their physical fitness and sport related skills, they also learn about strategy, teamwork, respect, and discipline. On Saturdays, the youth gather to train their physical skills as well as work on their academics. G4G youth work on their reading, writing and math skills through a variety of activities and games lead by the G4G coaches. To reinforce the importance of helping others and giving back to the community, at the end of every G4G session, the youth are asked to share how they have helped others in their community. Whether helping a friend, a family member, or a stranger, G4G youth are encouraged to always lend a helping hand and celebrate the helpful actions of others!
In addition to the after-school programs, G4G also organizes numerous tournaments and sport events for G4G youth as well as for youth from various schools in the area. The tournaments are an incredible opportunity for the youth to test their skills as well as build connections and community with others who share their passions and love of sports.
G4G also trains many high school students to become sport and education facilitators. Not only do they help the younger children learn and expand their skills, the coaches also develop valuable leadership skills in the process.
This year, G4G host its inaugural GO! for Girls - Sport and Education camp. The four-day camp hosted 16 grade 7 girls, selected for their athletic skills and their drive and determination both on and off the court. The girls participated in variety of sessions focusing on Team Handball training, English, Math, and female health. They learned valuable skills, which will help them succeed as they begin Secondary School this upcoming January.
